At The Mission Inn we believe that we have a duty to help improve the world through our actions as business owners and as community members. To that end, we work hard to find ways to put our social responsibility mission into practice. And we are proud of our ongoing contributions to make Cape May — and the world — a better place.
Recycle!
We are committed to doing the little things every day that can have a big impact. That includes recycling around the inn. We try to use products that come in eco-friendly containers whenever we can. And we also encourage our guests to separate our their recyclable items from the trash. Social responsibility is everyone’s responsibility! And every little bit helps.
Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
We are committed to using safe, effective, and eco-friendly cleaning products at The Mission Inn. To that end, we have carefully researched and selected specific CDC-recommended cleaning products to use throughout the inn. To learn more about these products, click here.
Rain Barrels
We use a lot of water during the summer months! So we installed three eco-friendly rain barrels to use in our gardens. Each of these rain barrels each hold 60 gallons of water! And they can be easily emptied into watering cans to keep our flowers looking beautiful and our herb and vegetable gardens tasting fresh.
Certified Wildlife Habitat
We are proud that our gardens have been certified as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. By using sustainable gardening practices, and planting a variety of native plants, we attract birds, bees, butterflies, and other neighborhood wildlife. And we are replenishing resources for both local and migratory birds and insects.
LED Lights
Since 2016 we have switched over almost all of the lights around the property – both indoors and out – to use LED bulbs. We even changed the lights used on our Christmas decorations to LEDs. And we will continue this initiative to make the inn as energy efficient as possible.
Bee Kind Bath Products
All of our bath and body products are part of the Bee Kind collection from Gilchrist & Soames. These fresh and soothing luxury products contain no artificial ingredients and use eco-friendly packaging. They also support ongoing research at the University of California at Davis by donating a portion of their proceeds to their Honey Bee Research Program.
No Single Use Bath Product Bottles
Did you know that social responsibility even extends into the shower? Unlike many hotel chains, we do not provide bath products for our guests in single use plastic bottles. Instead, we make use of a wall-mounted dispenser in every shower to provide easy and eco-friendly access to our Bee Kind bath products.
Cape May's Cultural Organizations
One of the many things that attracts visitors to Cape May is the town’s ongoing commitment to the arts and culture. Local non-profit organizations offer historic preservation, theater performances, and nature education. While the town hosts an eclectic assortment of art and music events throughout the year. And we support as many as we can both financially and through donations of our time.
