Meet Your Innkeepers

The Mission Inn has been owned and operated since 2016 by Wendy Collins and Laura Shaddock. After successful careers in digital media and educational technology, respectively, we decided to trade in the corporate grind for a new chapter in Cape May. And we were blessed to have found the perfect place to do so – The Mission Inn. We feel honored that the former owners, Susan and Ray, entrusted us as the next stewards of this amazing property and we look forward to continuing the legacy of outstanding service, warm hospitality, and casual elegance, along with comfortable, luxurious, and immaculately clean guest rooms.

Wendy spent much of her corporate career working in New York City for technology and digital media companies. With over 30+ years experience in this space, she has overseen the design and development of many large-scale online media platforms and websites, and has put those skills to use with the inn’s marketing and social media initiatives. Wendy also does some consulting to help small businesses better leverage today’s technology, and her volunteer work includes being on the board of two local non-profit organizations, Cape May MAC and Cape May Stage. Long before she knew what a bed and breakfast was or where Cape May, NJ, was located, Wendy received her BA degree in educational psychology from Princeton University where she was also a four-year letter winner and captain of the women’s basketball team.

Laura worked in the digital learning field throughout her career, finding ways for faculty to use new and emerging technologies in their teaching efforts. Most recently, she oversaw the online learning efforts at Princeton University, helping to create online courses and implementing innovate digital tools to improve instructional practices. Today, Laura uses her technical skills to help streamline and improve the operational workings around the inn. She also uses her green thumb to maintain the beautiful gardens around the property, and she enjoys volunteering at the Cape May Food Closet. Laura received her BS degree in Computer Science from Christopher Newport University and her Masters in Instructional Technology from the University of Bridgeport. And along the way, she raised two amazing humans – her son Matthew and her daughter Sarah.
