Check In & Check Out

  • Check-in time has been moved back to start at 4 pm to allow our staff more time to clean each room before you arrive. We will now welcome guests to check-in anytime between 4 pm and 6 pm.
  • Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate early check-ins at this time.
  • We also are unable to accommodate special requests such as the use of beach tags and/or beach equipment, the use of our outdoor shower or bikes, or the storage of luggage prior to check-in.

Before and after your stay, we will be taking extra steps to ensure that your arrival and departure are as safe and contactless as possible. To ensure your safety upon arrival, we have put the following check-in procedures in place:

To ensure your safety when you depart, we have put the following check-out procedures in place:

  • Check-out time remains at 11 am the day of your departure, and we kindly ask that you adhere to this policy as it allows our staff adequate time to clean the rooms before our next guests arrive.
  • We have placed a check-out box near the front door and ask that you place your room keys and beach tags in that box when you are ready to depart. All keys and tags will be cleaned and sanitized before reuse.
  • We are unable to accommodate special requests such as the use of beach tags and/or beach equipment, the use of our outdoor shower or bikes, or the storage of luggage after check-out.

Getting Around Cape May

We have bikes available for you to use during your stay. They are located in the back, on the right side of the home. You may use any bike in the bike rack or in the garage. If you are riding downtown or anywhere that you will be leaving the bike, please be sure to grab a bike lock to take with you. All of the locks have the same four-digit combination – 1117. When you return, please leave the bikes in the driveway so that we know which ones need to be sanitized at the end of the day. Do not put them in the bike rack of the garage.

If you prefer to walk, we are located just a block and a half from the beginning of the promenade. Simply go out the front door and down the steps, then head right on New Jersey Ave. Take the first left onto Philadelphia Ave, walk a few hundred yards to the end and turn right onto Beach Ave. Walk a few hundred yards further on Beach Ave, and you will see the entrance to the promenade on the left. If you walk the entire length of the promenade, it is about 1.5 miles each way.

If you need a lift during your stay, give our friends at Cape May Free Ride a call – 609-435-2680. They typically run on weekends from 4 pm to 10 pm and can take you anywhere in Cape May. The driver’s just work for tips so please be generous!

Your Guest Room

In your room you will find many amenities to make your stay comfortable. These include the following:

    • TV and Remote Control: All guest rooms have a TV. In some rooms, the TV is tucked away in the custom cabinetry. Inside you will find a flat panel TV and remote control. We offer basic cable services for our guests during their stay, and the remote control is fully sanitized before you check in. To turn the TV on simply press the “All Power” button at the top of the remote. Then you can use the Channel Up/Down and the Volume Up/Down buttons, or press the “Guide” button to activate on on-screen list of channels and shows. Please be courteous of other guests and keep your volume at a reasonable level.
    • Air Conditioning and Heat: Each guest room has it’s own AC unit and heat controls. The AC remote controls are hung in a cradle on the wall next in your room, and each remote is fully sanitized before you check in. To turn the AC unit on simply press the “Power” button and then adjust the temperature up/down to your liking. We kindly ask that you set your AC to 70 degrees (or turn it off altogether) when you are heading out for the day. The heat is controlled with a thermostat on your room’s wall.
    • Air Purifier:We have added a powerful air purifier with HEPA filters and internal UVC lights to each room. These will help to eliminate harmful dust, allergens, microorganisms, and more from the rooms. And the UVC light safely kill germs, mold, mildew, and in some cases even bacteria and viruses. Feel free to leave this running during your stay, or you can choose to turn it on/off at your discretion.
    • Bath Products: We use BeeKind bath products in all guest rooms. These nature-inspired products are made with honey and certified organic extracts of red clover, calendula, lemongrass, and chamomile. And a portion of the profits from all BeeKind products is used to help support the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility at the University of California, Davis.
    • Hair Dryer: You will find a standard hairdryer in your bathroom cabinets. Hair dryers are cleaned and sanitized before you check in.
    • Bathrobes: We provide bathrobes to use during your stay on request. All robes are washed and sanitized before you check in. If you’d like robes, just ask and we will put two in your room.
    • Spa Showers:All of our rooms have a private en suite bathroom with unique spa showers. If you need assistance with operating the shower in your room, please let us know when you check in.
  • Comfortable King Beds: All of our rooms have a comfortable king bed with a premium mattress, a tempurpedic mattress topper, and luxurious sheets. If you prefer a firmer mattress, you may request that the mattress topper be removed – please let us know prior to your visit. All bedding is washed and sanitized prior to your arrival.

Outdoor Amenities

During your stay, we provide you with many outdoor amenities to help you enjoy your time in Cape May. These include the following:

    • Complimentary Onsite Parking: Please park on the left side of the building in the back parking lot. You can also park for free on the street in front of the inn as there are no parking meters in this part of town.

    • Bikes: Please make use of our beach cruiser bikes that can be found on the right side of the building. We keep some bikes in the rack for easy access, and there are more in the garage that we open after breakfast. If you want, you can grab a basket to put on the bike. And, if you plan to stop along the way, please grab a bike lock to use. All of the locks have the same code: 1117. When you return, please park the bikes in the driveway (not the garage) so that we know they need to be cleaned.

    • Beach Tags: We will provide you with two complimentary beach tags to use during your stay. These will be available from when you check in until you check out. If you fail to return the tags, you will be charged $105 per tag to replace the seasonal commercial tags.

    • Beach Chairs and Umbrellas: This summer our complimentary beach service is back! That means you will receive a special pass along with your beach tags. Just show that pass at Steger Beach Service to get two chairs and an umbrella set up for you on the beach. This service is available from 9 am to 4 pm daily. If you want to head to beach in the early morning or after 4 pm, you can also use the beach chairs and umbrellas housed in our garage. When you return, please place them next to the garage so that we can clean and sanitize them each night.

    • Beach Towels and Beach Bag: During the summer season, you will find a complimentary beach bag in your room. This is yours to use and take home. Beach towels can now be found in the garage next to the umbrellas – please help yourself. When you return from the beach, please place your beach towels in the container next to the outdoor shower located on the right side of the building, near the outdoor shower.
    • Outdoor Shower: Our outdoor shower is located on the right side of the house. Please use it after returning from the beach to wash off any sand before entering the house. You will also find a sanitization station just outside the shower.
    • Back Patio: We welcome you to make use of our back patio area during your stay. It can be accessed from either side of the building, in the back. There you will find comfortable seating and a table with an umbrella that can be used for dining. All seating is cleaned and sanitized daily, and we ask that you practice social distancing when sharing the space with other guests.

  • Firepit: The firepit is available for guests to use in the evenings. To turn it on, please find the small silver box located directly behind the firepit on the wall of the house. Open the box and you will see a light switch – just flip the switch to turn the firepit on. Be sure that no one is standing directly over the firepit when you turn it on! And be sure to turn if off when you leave. The back patio and the firepit close at 10 pm out of respect for the guest rooms located above this area. Thank you for your cooperation.

Breakfast at The Mission Inn

Breakfast is served every morning between 8 am and 9:30 am. You do not need to make reservations for a specific time – simply join us in the dining room (or on the veranda, as weather permits) to enjoy Chef Leslie’s culinary creations.

Each morning she serves a delicious and creatively prepared meal. Starting with a bottomless cup of fresh brewed coffee and our 100% natural juice selection, you will next enjoy a course of seasonal fresh fruit with our favorite vanilla bean yogurt. And for a main course Chef Leslie will alternate between a savory egg-based dish or a sweeter breakfast such as her famous lemon soufflé pancakes with real maple syrup, or her homemade red velvet waffles with fresh fruit and an orange glaze.

No matter what’s on the menu, Chef Leslie will always make every effort to comply with your dietary needs, as long as she knows about them in advance. If you have any special requirements please let us know about them the day before so that she can prepare something delicious just for you. If you’d prefer a lighter breakfast in the morning, just let us know. We can always offer you a half portion of the daily meal, or perhaps just the fruit course along with eggs any way you’d like them.

Happy Hour at The Mission Inn

Our popular and lively afternoon happy hour has been temporarily modified to provide our guests with a socially distanced way to enjoy some afternoon refreshments.

For now, deliciously prepared and individually packaged snacks for each room will be available in the guest refrigerator located in our solarium. We will make these afternoon treats available every day by 11 am. Please enjoy them on our veranda, on the back patio, or at the beach. We ask that you kindly return the containers to the sink in the guest kitchen after each use.

And, as always, our signature homemade oatmeal, cranberry, coconut cookies will continue to be available for guests to enjoy at any time. But they will now be individually wrapped for safe keeping.

Dining in Cape May

Currently, all restaurants in Cape May and throughout the state of New Jersey, are able to offer both indoor and outdoor dining with no restrictions. We encourage you to continue to have a mask or face covering with you, as some restaurants are still requiring that it be worn until you are seated.

If you are planning to dine out while you are in town, we encourage you to make make advanced reservations. You are also welcome to bring your food back to the inn and eat outside on the veranda or back patio, or inside at the solarium table. You will find utensils for your use in the guest kitchen cabinets. We ask that you refrain from enjoying your takeout meals in your room.

Housekeeping

At The Mission Inn, your health and safety has been, and will continue to be, our top priority! In addition to our normal detailed cleaning practices that our guests have come to expect, we have also implemented new enhanced procedures to help ensure your well-being and peace-of-mind during your next visit. Click here to review our recently updated COVID-19 cleaning protocols.

For now, we are no longer doing daily refresh cleanings in your guest room. However, if you are staying for three more more nights, we will gladly refresh your room upon request. And if you need new bath or beach towels, just ask in the morning and we will deliver them to your door.

Our Common Spaces

We welcome you to use our common spaces, both indoors and outside, during your visit. This will allow you to spread out and relax while complying with social distancing guidelines. To ensure your continued safety, we have implemented some new procedures for our common spaces. To learn more, please click here to view our COVID-19 updates.

For our shared indoor and outdoor spaces, we are asking guests to practice social distancing and wear face coverings if they have not been vaccinated. Thank you for your cooperation.

In our solarium, we provide a refrigerator, coffee machine, and water cooler for guests to use. These are all cleaned thoroughly throughout the day.
